Bowling Green, KY - Janet Kathryn Harnisch Leonard passed away on February 20, 2019 at the age of 91, in Bowling Green, KY. She came to Bowling Green in 1997 to take care of her close friend Charles S. Caldwell of Cave City.
Prior to that time, she had lived in Sarasota Florida, for thirty years. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Herbert and Ruth Eleanor Schrot Harnisch of New Jersey, and her ex-husband, the late H. Jack Leonard of Haddonfield, New Jersey, whom she married in 1948. Janet was a member of the Unity Church, which she attended in Sarasota. She graduated from high school in New Jersey as valedictorian of a class of 305, in 1945. She continued her education at the Berkeley Business College in New Jersey.
Her career included positions as executive assistant to various corporate executives in New York City and Chicago. She especially enjoyed being the Executive Assistant at Ken Dolan Investments. She traveled internationally in her career, especially enjoying her time in Switzerland. Later in Florida, she was involved in real estate development and sales, before moving to Bowling Green. Shortly after Mr. Caldwell died, she moved to Village Manor, the Christian Retirement Center.
Janet enjoyed traveling, was an accomplished tennis player, a keen bridge player, and an avid reader. She read national newspapers daily until her final days. She met and made many long-lasting friends in the numerous places she lived. She leaves cousins out west: Dr. Mary Schrot (John Wilson) of Livermore CA; Paula Ann Scofield of Boise, ID; and Robert Schrot of Yuba City, CA. Janet was surrounded by wonderful caretakers at her passing. Special thanks to Heidi Sadler, Theresa Embry, Diane Olsen, and Sharon Jensen. She leaves special friends to cherish her memory: Maggie Scatchard, Rosemary Ashcraft, Lillian Clark, Dennis Longest, Sharon Kreke, and Cathy and David Reeves.
